The Computer Science Department is one of the largest and certainly the fastest growing department on campus. The department has over 700 Computer Science and Information Systems undergraduate majors along with 240 graduate majors. In addition, an even greater number of non-majors are enrolled in Computer Science courses.

The Computer Science labs, faculty offices, student offices, student lounges and some classrooms are all located in the Computer Science building. The Computer Science Building has experienced a vast growth of visitors (students, parents, international visitors) over the last years and the anticipated growth is almost alarming.

Our goal is to continue to build excellence in our programs, students, faculty, and facilities. The proposed building is the first step in a long-term construction program to upgrade our laboratories and create new classroom and research space, which will help recruit students and faculty. The Department has benefited from increased support by New York State, SUNY, the local Stony Brook administration, and the region's high tech industrial partners.
