Connecting to sbwin2 from home
Q. How do I connect to "sbwin2" from my home machine?
The following can be used to remotely connect from a student's
home PC to sbwin2 using the Citrix ICA client software.
- Download the ICA Client for your Operating system from http://www.citrix.com/download/ica_clients.asp
- Install the ICA client software on your system.
- If you don't have an SSH2 client already installed then install one.
For windows, the client from ssh.com is recommended.
- In you SSH2 client configuration create an outgoing tunnel with the
following parameters:
Local/Listen Port: 1494
Allow only local connections: YES
Remote destination host: sbwin2.cs.sunysb.edu
Remote destination port: 1494
- Test the tunnel, by doing the following:
- Connect to comperv1.cs.sunysb.edu using the ssh2 client.
- Open up a command window.
- Enter the command: netstat -an
- If you do not see port 1494 on your machine in a LISTENING state,
then there is something wrong. The tunnel has not been setup, and you
must resolve this before continuing.
- Once the tunnel has been established you need to startup the ICA client.
The hostname of the server you are connecting to is "localhost".
