Duplicate Emails |

Back to Technical FAQ |
Users of MS Outlook (not Outlook Express), KDmail and Evolution who are receiving duplicate emails should note the following do's and don't:
- Review the popmail faq.
- Avoid leaving emails on the server. You will reduce Outlook's chance of giving trouble to zero if you let Outlook delete read email from the server.
- Don't read mails with pine, dtmail, mailx or mailtool in addition to popmail. These mail readers alter the mailbox in ways that confuse these popmail clients.
- Try using popmail.cs.sunysb.edu port 996 (a different pop3 over ssl server).
- If your mailer complains about lack of UIDL support the pop3 server (over ssl) at port 996 will likely help.
- Try increasing your pop client timeout setting. If the client times out then mails being read at that moment will be reread from the server.
- Copy all the email from your inbox, zero the inbox and restart your pop client. Sometimes this is the only way to end the insanity.
