Data Mining is a new, promising and flourishing interdisciplinary
field drawing work from areas including database technology, artificial
intelligence, machine learning, pattern recognition, high-performance
computing, and data visualization. It focuses on issues relating to
the feasibility, usefulness, efficiency and scalability of techniques
for automated extraction of patterns representing knowledge implicity
stored in large datbases, warehouses, and other massive information
repositories. The course gives a broad, yet in-depth overview of the
field of data mining and presents one or two techniques in rigorous
