Analysis of message queuing and buffering in computer networks. Survey of OSI layered architecture. Network topology. Local, metropolitan, and wide area networks. Circuit and packet switching techniques. High Speed and Lightwave Network Concepts: Synchronous Optical Network (SONET), Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI), Distributed Queue Dual Bus (DQDB-QPSX), Integrated Services Digital Networks (ISDN), Broadband-ISDN, Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM).
