Our Rankings
Overall Stony Brook University Rankings
Stony Brook University rates very high in global rankings of Universities world-wide, and among the PhD granting Universities in the United States of America. In a general ranking released in November 2004 of the more than 8,300 universities worldwide, the Times of London ranked Stony Brook 136th, and in the top 50 in North America. It ranked 33rd worldwide in research impact.
Very recently, the Institute for Higher Education in Shanghai ranked Stony Brook among the top 150 universities in the world. In addition, the Times of London Higher Education Supplement, in a rating of the best sciences universities globally, ranked Stony Brook No. 76 in the world, 21st in the U.S. and 10th among U.S. public universities.

PhD Program in Computer Science at Stony Brook
The PhD program of the Department of Computer Science at Stony Brook has been ranked as high as 17th among all the PhD granting institutions in a study conducted by the National Academy of Sciences.
In a NSF-funded NAGPS survey where computer science graduate students and newly minted Ph.D. graduates graded their own institutions, our Department was ranked among the top 10 institutions. For detailed results, see http://survey.nagps.org.
Undergraduate Computer Science Program in Computer Science at Stony Brook
In a recent Gourman report (10th Edition), Stony Brook's undergraduate Computer Science program was ranked 15th nationwide and 2nd in New York State.
Overall Computer Science Department Rankings
In some of the older overall rankings, the Department of Computer Science at Stony Brook University has been ranked 29th by U.S.News & World Report in 2002, and the GRE Guide ranked us as the 29th best.
