Background


I have been Professor and Chair of Computer Science at The State University of New York (SUNY), Korea since April 2016. I have also been serving as the president of the university since January 1, 2022, after having served as the provost of the university for several years.

Before that I was W. M. Keck Professor of Computer Science at Claremont McKenna College from 2005 until I joined SUNY Korea, where I served as Department Chair from 2014 to 2015. From 2001 to 2004 I was an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Utah. From 1993 to 2000 I was an Assistant, Associate Professor of Computer Science & Engineering at Korea University (in Seoul, Korea), where I served as Department Chair from 1997 to 1999.

I also worked at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center, Evans & Sutherland Computer Corp., Sandia National Lab, HP, and SAP Labs Korea for over 14 years combined.

I received my B.S. degree (Magna Cum Laude) from the University of Utah, the M.S. from Stanford University, and the Ph.D. from the University of Utah, all in computer science.
