Collaborative Visual Analytics Using Blockchain

Abstract: Blockchain, a decentralized, distributed and encrypted ledger,was created to eliminate the need for a central trusted entity. Blockchains provide users with a secure, trusted, auditable, and immutable record of transactions and are applicable to systems that require a trustworthy record of information. Our work explores the use of blockchain in collaborative visual analytics systems where users share and store a record of the visual analysis of some data. We built Share.va, a framework that allows users to store and share the states of visual analytics dashboards through a blockchain. We apply Share.va to an existing visual analytics dashboard and conduct a pilot study to understand the e ectiveness and limitations of blockchain in collaborative visual analytics.
