| For Prospective Students | Yejin Choi |
Thank you for your interest. Here are some suggestions for prospective students:
- For Both PhD & MS Applicants:
If you are interested in working with me, definitely indicate so by mentioning my name in your statement of purpose, so that I can pay attention to your application.
I am sorry if I am not replying to your emails. It is not because I am not interested in you, but because I receive too many such emails. Please also understand that the admission committee will collectively make decisions about your applications, and I neither have such discretion to admit any applicant on my own, nor can predict the likely outcome of your application.
If you are already admitted to Stony Brook, by all means drop by my office to say hello and probe research opportunities!
- For PhD Applicants:
I am generally open to new students to work with me, but I cannot promise how many new students I can take in any given year, as it depends on many unpredictable variables. On average, I will probably try to include one new PhD student per year to my research group.
Any student admitted to our Ph.D. program will be fully supported via TA or RA throughout his/her entire stay as long as one maintains good academic standing. Usually, the first year will be supported by TA, and the subsequent years will be supported by RA. Please be admitted and then take one of my classes first, before inquiring me about RA.
- For MS Applicants:
Masters students are also welcome to work with me via independent research projects, but I highly recommend to take one of my classes first. At the moment, I am not able to offer financial support (RA) to MS students.
