SUNY Chancellor Recognizes Nikiforakis

In recognition of Professor Nick Nikiforakis’ dedication towards the Stony Brook community, he received the 2022-2023 SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities. This award supports the pursuits foundational to sustaining the intellectual growth of SUNY institutions by recognizing consistently outstanding scholarly and creative productivity by faculty.

Nikiforakis is an associate professor at Stony Brook University in the Department of Computer Science who specializes in cybersecurity and is known for his pioneering work on web security, privacy, and online tracking.  His work mainly  focuses on understanding the security and privacy risks associated with web technologies and developing techniques to manage those risks. Nikiforakis received highly selective awards in the past, including the CAREER award from the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Young Investigator award from the Office of Naval Research (ONR) and multiple best or distinguished paper awards. His research has been covered by the popular press, including New York Times, Washington Post, Newsday, Gizmodo, Slashdot, WIRED and Arts Technica.

When congratulating him, Professor and Department Chair Samir Das said, “Nick is one of the most visible cyber-security academics in our community, with an extremely impressive and sustained scholarly record. The department is fortunate to have him as a member and his impact on students is realized on a daily basis.”

The Chancellor’s Award acknowledges exemplary performance and is a symbol of SUNY’s commitment to higher education. Nikiforakis was chosen by a SUNY-wide selection committee based on his scholarly accomplishments over the last nine years,  and impact on students and the university community.
