What did you do this summer? For three Stony Brook faculty members this question is easy to answer. They were the leaders of a four week computer science and informatics summer program for high school students.

CS Post-Doc a Young Academic Inventor's Award Winner


Belated congratulations to Joseph Marino, a post-doctoral research associate in the Department of Computer Science, on winning the inaugural Young Academic Inventor's Award from Stony Brook University Chapter of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI-SBU) the NAI-SBU Chapter. Marino was presented with his award on May 1 at the Annual Chapter Meeting which also celebrated 16 new NAI-SBU members and two honorary members.  

Talks by Fangzhen Lin from Hong Kong U of Science and Technology


Fangzhen Lin from Hong Kong U of Science and Technology will be visiting next Tue, July 18, and give two talks on two extremely interesting and important works:

 1:30 PM: Verification---of our everyday programs using our everyday logic (making it even simple and fun to think about them)

 3:00 PM: Loop formulas---on building solvers for answer set programming problems (a fundamental result connecting two research areas).

The IT/Computer Science Job and Internship Fair is set for Friday, September 15 from 12n-4p.

Last year over 80 employers from around the country participated and this year we expect even more interest in recruiting CS students. To meet the demand, the event is held in both the Student Activities Center and the New Computer Science building.

The Department of Computer Science welcomes 213 new alumni from the Class of 2017!

Congratulations, CS Grads!


This year we are happy to welcome 213 new alumni to the Department of Computer Science!

Undergraduate students in computer science and information systems make up the bulk of our new alumni with a total of 156 undergraduate students in the Class of 2017. A total of 45 students earned their M.S. in computer science and 11 students successful defended their doctoral dissertations, earning a PhD in computer science from Stony Brook University.
