Computer Science and Career Center Present CS Tech Day 2015 on September 18

Stony Brook University’s Department of Computer Science and the Stony Brook University Career Center have teamed up again to host Computer Science Technology Day (CS Tech Day).  This year, the focus of CS Tech Day is CS Interface: Multimedia, VR, and Gaming in 2015

In addition to the employer Job & Internship Fair taking place from 10a-3p, activities in the morning include an employer tour of the new computer science building, and a student Fast Forward session that showcases their latest digital media research/projects. A student and faculty research poster session will take place in the new CS building throughout the day.

“I'm quite excited about the day,” said Tony Scarlatos, Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science. “It's an opportunity for the CS department and our students to shine, in a beautiful new building. I have been teaching in CS for 20 years and CS Tech Day feels like a celebration of all the progress the department has made.”

The afternoon sessions kick-off with Dean Yacov Shamash, CS Chairman Arie Kaufman, and industry leaders participating in a Human Computer Interaction (HCI) panel focused on the importance of the User Experience (UX) in software development. Confirmed panelists include Applied Visions, eGifter, Consortium for Digital Arts, Culture, and Technology (cDACT), and CA Technologies. A reception celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Multimedia Lab, that will include a student and alumni awards presentation, immediately follows the HCI panel.

In the last event of the day, students will participate in Bloomberg’s Code Con programming contest. Students should watch the SBU CS website, FB StonyBrook CompSci, and Twitter SBUCompSc for CodeCon registration information which will be posted the first week of classes. Sponsorship of the event is a great way for an employer to promote their company to 1500+ students and faculty, and 7,000+ alumni. CS Tech Day will welcome international, national, and local companies and will bring together researchers and industry leaders; start-up and top technology companies; and employers and job seekers. It is a unique opportunity for companies to interact with students and faculty at an event that celebrates computer science at Stony Brook University.
