Applications are now open for the 2026 session of the Computer Science and Informatics Summer Research Experience Program (CSIRE) at Stony Brook University. High-school students in the U.S. with solid programming or data analysis skills are encouraged to apply for this intensive six-week summer research opportunity.
CSIRE — jointly run by the university’s Departments of Biomedical Informatics and Computer Science — gives selected students the chance to work in active research labs under the mentorship of faculty, Ph.D. students, and post-docs. Participants explore projects spanning machine learning, data science, biomedical informatics, human-computer interaction, visualization, security, and more.
Over the summer, students take part in seminars, lab visits, and regular research work. As part of the program, they also present their work mid-program and at the end — giving them an authentic research experience closely resembling university-level STEM inquiry.
Interested applicants should visit the CSIRE website for eligibility requirements and application details, and submit their application before the deadline. Spaces are limited, and the program has become increasingly competitive over the years.
