Senior Lecturer Ahmad Esmaili has been honored with the Excellence in Educational Effectiveness Award, one of seven recipients recognized across the university. Established in 2022, the award recognizes faculty and staff who are committed to best practices in academic assessment and who use assessment results to strengthen teaching and academic programs.
Esmaili’s approach to teaching emphasizes data-informed assessment and a student-centered curriculum aligned with industry standards. His work reflects a broader focus on using evidence and feedback to support continuous improvement in course design and student learning outcomes.
“Assessment data allows me to see how students are progressing throughout the semester,” Esmaili said. “By using a combination of assessment methods, including AI-supported tools, I’m able to identify where students may need additional support and make instructional adjustments when needed.”
“This award highlights the importance of thoughtful, evidence-based teaching in higher education,” said Samir Das, professor and chair of the Department of Computer Science. “Our department is deeply committed to using assessment to strengthen instruction and support student learning, and we are pleased to see that work recognized.”
The Excellence in Educational Effectiveness Award is jointly sponsored by the Office of Educational Effectiveness and the Office of the Provost. The award underscores the university’s commitment to meaningful assessment practices and their role in strengthening both individual courses and broader academic programs.
