The Department of Computer Science welcomed 24 new M.S. students at a graduate student orientation held ahead of the start of the Spring 2026 semester. Approximately 15 students attended the session, both in person and on Zoom, with in-person attendees gathering over breakfast to meet classmates and connect with the department community.

The orientation provided an overview of the M.S. in computer science program structure. It helped students prepare for the semester ahead, including providing broad guidance on coursework expectations, advising, and enrollment-related logistics. Students also had the opportunity to connect with faculty and staff, ask questions, and start building the relationships that will support them throughout the program.

Students typically explore and declare concentrations later in the program after completing a few courses. Those interested in getting involved in research can learn more about current areas of work and faculty labs on the department’s research page

The department looks forward to supporting students as they begin their graduate journey at Stony Brook.
