Biography

Akshat Dave received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Rice University in 2023 and his Masters and Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 2017. Before joining the Computer Science department in Fall 2025, Dr. Dave is working as a Postdoctoral Associate in Media Lab at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Research

Akshat Dave leads the Photon Intelligence Lab (Φ Lab) with a focus on creating vision systems that can see what we cannot: around us, inside our bodies, and beyond our scientific understanding. His expertise lies in leveraging AI to capture and understand the physics of light – by integrating optics, graphics, and vision. His research finds applications in creating safe autonomous systems, accessible biomedical imaging and accelerating physical science.
