Donald Porter is affiliated with the Computer Science Department of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Computer Science from The University of Texas at Austin in 2010 and 2007, and B.A. in Computer Science and Mathematics from Hendrix College in 2003.
Don Porter's research explores computer system designs that improve efficiency, security, and usability. His research focuses on operating systems, but often investigates cross-cutting issues about how the layers of the technology stack are composed. He is the director of the Operating systems, Security, Concurrency, and Architecture Research (OSCAR) Lab. Ongoing projects in OSCAR include the Graphene Library OS, a lightweight, Linux-compatible guest OS.
