Terminal Server

How can I access department services such as printers or software remotely?

You can access department services like network printers and software by connecting to one of the department Terminal Servers.

The terminal server is accessible by using a Remote Desktop Client (RDP) and connecting to ts01.cs.stonybrook.edu:22 (on port 22) or ts02.cs.stonybrook.edu:22 (on port 22).

You'll be prompted for your credentials. Provide your username and domain as follows:

  • CSuser where user is your CS Windows username. You can also specify your login name as user [at] cs.stonybrook.edu

  • For your password, provide your CS Windows password, the same one you use to login to read your CS Google email (user [at] cs.stonybrook.edu), or credentials at the Windows lab.

MAC and Linux users please note:

To login to this remote Windows Terminal Server from a Macintosh, Mac OS X users first have to download a Remote Desktop Client for Mac OS X from iTunes, and install it.

Linux users have to first install the "rdesktop" client for Linux. Consult your particular distribution to figure out how to do this (e.g., CentOS/RedHat use "yum install rdesktop", Ubuntu users use "apt-get install rdesktop", etc.). If the client is installed, export DISPLAY to your local host, and run this from the command line: rdesktop ts01.cs.stonybrook.edu:22 or rdesktop ts02.cs.stonybrook.edu:22.

How do I access a CS lab machine and department software from home?

You can access a replica of a CS lab machine through the SBCS RemoteApp and Desktop Connection. In order to log on, provide your username and domain as follows:

  • CSuser where user is your CS Windows username (which should match your NetID).

  • For your password, provide your CS Windows password, the same one you use to login to read your CS Google email (user [at] cs.stonybrook.edu), or credentials at the Windows lab.

Keep in mind that this method is a Virtual Windows replication of a CS lab machine. Thus, the available software is identical to that of a CS lab machine. For further instructions, please visit the Remote Desktop Web Access page.

Where can I get additional help if I am having issues accessing these services?
